The Black Dahlia Murder – Servitude Review

November 8, 2024November 7, 2024 Reviewed by Metalligator No comments

For newcomers, Servitude serves up the same kind of cutthroat melodic death metal that this band has been putting out for shy over 20 years now, with a sound that bleeds in colors of Carcass and At the Gates, among others. Fans will find a good album that harkens back to the sound of albums like Nocturnal. The Black Dahlia Murder are very much still alive.

Void Witch – Horripilating Presence

August 23, 2024August 22, 2024 Reviewed by Bobo Dupla No comments

As he ages, Bobo finds himself drawn to death/doom music, much like an older bear preferring scavenging over chasing prey. He enjoys watching it slowly die, whether it’s a fresh corpse or a decomposed cadaver. Though he usually prefers the latter, Void Witch caught him hungry enough to listen to their final pleas. Mythologik – Blood in the Sky Review

June 20, 2024June 19, 2024 Reviewed by Anti-Peat No comments

Texan duo Mythologik proclaim that Blood in the Sky features a mix of melodic blackened death metal musical tendencies with aggressive/soaring vocals like 80s thrash metal. Nowadays, when the progressive descriptor is added to melodic death metal, this means that the songs are longer without any good reason. You would be hard pressed to find a modern melodic death metal band that is creative or that looks outside its own box. Second Shooter are a band that look back instead. Are they shooting for the stars, or looking back in fury?

Dyssebeia – Garden of Stillborn Idols Review

November 17, 2023December 28, 2023 Reviewed by Metalligator No comments

Melodic Death Metal is truly a mixed bag of a genre. You often know what you will get when you press play. For every Carcass, The Black Dahlia Murder and Amorphis, there are thousands of At the Gates, In Flames and Insomnium clones. Are Dyssebeia also gardeners of eternal imitation?

Grand Cadaver – Deities of Deathlike Sleep Review

September 5, 2023September 4, 2023 Reviewed by Metalligator No comments

For all the talented people involved in Grand Cadaver (featuring members from Dark Tranquility and Katatonia, among other bands), their mission statement is simple: to write Death Metal songs that are conceived spontaneously and quickly, letting their passion for the music guide the way. Grand Cadaver are anything but sleepy.
