Fun Doom can be challenging. What can set an album apart is if the band knows when to develop and/or speed up a song. Loss know that and furthermore, they know how to sweat that juicy atmosphere many adore Funeral Doom for from every pore.
Scuttlegoat's Exhumed Eccentricities
Progressive epic doom might feel oxymoronic, but his goat knows at least one band that manage the tightrope walk of making progressive epic doom metal. The band is connected to other greats of the Chilean epic doom scene, mainly through bassist Claudio Botarro Neira, who plays in the much more well known Procession, whose much more riff-oriented approach does not offer the same room for exploration that Capilla Ardiente does.
Animal is the band’s last album and in many ways their greatest achievement. While the material never approaches insane speeds, it is undeniably rather technical and complex. The material is percussive in nature doesn’t approach the higher register unless it really needs to.
I got introduced to Bound and Gagged. The musicians in Bound and Gagged have very few accolades in the BDM realm beyond their one album discussed here. Fornicate the Gutted, however, is a unique specimen. There is a jazziness to Bound and Gagged, undeniably so. Through the round, and often surprisingly gentle bass tone and a drum performance that occasionally attempts to be loose and freeform, there is a suspicion that these musicians have a background in genres beyond extreme metal.
